FRIDAY FOOD THING
Last week I did something I’ve wanted to do for years — I threw out all Mom’s gift glass sauce pans and skillets. Anything with a handle was thrown in the recycling bin. Those pots and pans had wasted space in my cabinets for far too long. I mean, really — even water burns in those suckers. To be fair, I spent about half an hour thinking about some of the pros of stovetop Pyrex. Lots of cons bounced around in my head, but the only positive thought I could come up with is: you are able to watch your food burning on the bottom.
I couldn’t agree more! LOL

By the way, I did notice my glass dutch oven tends to boil over VERY easily…

Hmm.. The only glass stovetop pan I have is a dutch oven… I use it for making ribs and kraut, and that’s about it. It doesn’t have the Teflon lining like some do, so it works fine for me, but for everyday cooking, I have my trusty stainless steel! I sold a few of my mother’s Teflon lined glass pans for her on ebay.
Not sure why she didn’t want them.. I should ask. I just assumed maybe she didn’t like the teflon or since she was 90, she just didn’t want to cook that much anymore (not that she ever did! LOL!).

I have a couple of those pans, too, and only use them in the microwave. You are right, you CAN burn water in those things!

AMEN and I feel your pain, Tim!!!! Mom’s glass pans are on the basement shelves that I’ve not tackled yet. My current project is their den. Floor to Ceiling shelves. Shelves jam-packed with books. Poetry; Gardening; Aviation; Military; Religion; Travel; and on and on and on and on. Piles everywhere. Trash this; recycle that; sell this; try to give this away; maybe I’ll read this one some day; maybe my kids or grandkids would read this someday. I almost wish a used-book dealer would come here, take a look, and make an offer…….

I have some of that glass cookware and I love it! Things I no longer have use for I donate to thrift shops like SAVERS…they sell items to raise $$ for charity such as Big Brothers and Sisters. They send used clothing they feel won’t sell to third world countries. Seems like a worthwhile endeavor to me.
